20 ideas to have creative dates with yourself

Creative dates for yourself. Something I haven’t done much, but I’m definitely planning on doing it soon. I read it can really boost your creativity.

You know Julia Cameron’s book, the Artist’s Way? One of the things she writes about in her book is having a creative date with yourself. A lot of people have had positive experiences, so I thought it would be a nice idea to give you a list of the best possible creative dates you can have with yourself! It’s also the perfect idea to start slow living a bit more… Here you go:

  1. Look for a dreamy street in your neighbourhood, preferably with a lot of trees in the most beautiful fall colours. Grab some tea in your thermos, put on your boots and most cosy sweater and start walking. When you don’t find inspiration, at least you had a wonderful walk and a chance to get your head freed up.

  2. Take you camera or smartphone and go out and start taking pictures. Drive or walk through your village, town or city and take pictures of anything that draws your attention. Just scan your neighbourhood in search of nice colour combinations or things that strike your eye!

  3. On a dry but crispy cold day you can take a blanket, a good book and read somewhere in a nice park. Don’t forget to treat yourself at a nice cup of tea or a muffin at the bakery!

  4. Go to the beach (or lake/river/…) and collect shells, little rocks, twigs, flowers or leafs. Take them home with you and draw or paint them in your sketchbook.

  5. Enjoy the fact that in fall it gets dark early, and just hang some twinkling fairy lights in a corner, and make it cosy. Read that book you have been wanting to read, put on some nice music and light that new candle you just got!

  6. Listen to an audiobook or podcast and bake cookies or cake.

  7. Home alone? Watch (or rewatch) your favourite fall movies, take your favourite snacks, light some candles and you got yourself a nice little movie night by yourself.

  8. Why not have a lunch date with yourself? Look for a cool place where you can have a bowl of soup or a nice sandwich. And when you really feel uncomfortable alone, just take a magazine or a book with you. And when you do feel comfortable eating alone, take out your sketchbook and draw what you’re eating for lunch!

  9. Make a crafty day out of a rainy day. Take out a bunch of old magazines, and cut out what draws your attention. Stick everything in a collage, or better: make a mood board or even better: put everything you’d love to accomplish on a vision board and start manifesting it!

  10. Browse through a local thrift store for an afternoon and look for that perfect find: a book, a sweater or maybe you can find something else you can start a cool DIY-project with?

  11. Look for beautiful leafs, twigs, sticks, berries or anything else you can use as props for your next creative project or for when you want to take nice pictures from your art.

  12. Look for nice stones or rocks to paint on. You can gift them, place them in your garden or put somewhere in your town for others to find and to collect.

  13. Go to an apple orchard or a dahlia farm and take a LOAD of pictures. Pick flowers, apples or pumpkins, and just enjoy your day!

  14. Put on your favourite music, or a new album you haven’t listened to yet. Just dance, or play it while driving the car to work, school or home. Enjoy.

  15. Go to your favourite shop and see what they have to offer, without rushing yourself or wanting to buy anything. Just browsing and enjoying and making a list in your head what you’d love to buy next time.

  16. Give yourself time to browse through your local bookshop and don’t be afraid to sit in a corner with a book, and just look at some beautifully designed book covers or lovely illustrated children’s books! An ideal moment to make a study for yourself when you want to start illustrating in the market of children picture books!

  17. Buy yourself to a huge mug of tea, and something sweet. Just because you deserve it.

  18. Make it cosy in your bedroom, light a candle, put on some fairy twinkling lights and watch your favourite series. I cannot wait to start watching the last season of Stranger Things!

  19. Craft yourself a nice wreath for fall with flowers of your own garden or twigs and leaves you scoured from the forest.

  20. Go to a nice little village close by where you haven’t been to yet, and give yourself permission and time to just discover everything. Walk to the little boutiques, take pictures and just enjoy your time alone.

Any other tips you’d love to give on having a creative date by yourself, that you wouldn’t mind doing solo?
